Purpose of Dastarkhwan
To address hunger, poverty, and the growing issue of drug addiction among vulnerable communities,
Khwendo Kor (KK) continues to organise Dastarkhwan activities as part of its humanitarian and
community support initiatives. These efforts aim not only to provide food assistance but also to restore
dignity, compassion, and hope among marginalised individuals through a respectful community
engagement.
Current Dastarkhwan Activity at Karkhano Market, Peshawar
On May 21, 2026, Khwendo Kor Head Office organised a Dastarkhwan activity at Karkhano Market,
Peshawar, primarily for vulnerable individuals, including drug addicts and children involved in child
labour. The activity was conducted in a sheltered area to ensure a safe and respectful environment for
all participants.
The event formally started with the prayers to Almighty Allah, expressing gratitude for providing the
opportunity to serve humanity and support those facing difficult circumstances in society.
Initially, many of the participants appeared frightened and hesitant to approach the team, as they
assumed they were being taken to a police station or hospital due to their condition and experiences
with authorities. However, after the Khwendo Kor team interacted with them warmly and explained
that the purpose of the gathering was simply to provide them with lunch and support with dignity and
respect, they gradually became comfortable and happily joined the activity.
During interaction sessions with the participants, many individuals shared their personal struggles and
life experiences. Several participants explained that they had become addicted to drugs due to domestic
issues, emotional neglect, financial hardship, and negative influence from peer groups and bad
company. Some participants also revealed that they were often treated harshly by local authorities and
society, while a few individuals were observed with physical injuries, including broken arms and visible
health concerns.
The activity provided not only food assistance but also emotional comfort and human interaction for
people who are often neglected by society. Many participants expressed their desire to leave addiction
behind and live a better life through honest labour, employment opportunities, and proper support from
society. Their words reflected a strong need for compassion, rehabilitation, and community-based
assistance mechanisms.
A delicious rice meal was served respectfully to all participants in an organised manner with the support
of the KK team and staff members. Some participants also requested packed food parcels to take with
them for later in the day, which highlighted the seriousness of food insecurity faced by many vulnerable
individuals in the area.
At the conclusion of the activity, the participants expressed heartfelt gratitude and prayers for Khwendo
Kor, its management, staff, and the philanthropists whose generous support made the activity possible.
The event created a meaningful humanitarian impact and reinforced the importance of continuing such
compassionate initiatives for marginalised communities.
